Tesamorelin is a lab-made analog of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH): all 44 amino acids of the human hormone plus a hexenoyl group.1 It signals the pituitary to release the body's own growth hormone.1 FDA has approved it as the prescription injections Egrifta SV and Egrifta WR for one use: reducing excess abdominal fat in HIV-infected adults with lipodystrophy.71 The research vials here hold freeze-dried powder in 2 mg, 5 mg, 10 mg sizes and are not Egrifta.

StorageNo stability data for research-grade tesamorelin were found, so this page makes no shelf-life claim. Bachem's general peptide guidance is to keep freeze-dried peptide below -15 °C and freeze solutions in portions; most peptides containing Met, Asn or Gln, as tesamorelin does, have a limited shelf life.203

Bulk and wholesale orders

Labs that need bulk tesamorelin, or a steady tesamorelin supplier for repeat orders, can apply for a wholesale account. Tesamorelin wholesale terms are confirmed on application.

Questions about Tesamorelin

About Tesamorelin

Tesamorelin is the full 44-amino-acid sequence of human growth hormone-releasing factor (GRF, also called GHRH) with one addition: a hexenoyl group, a 6-carbon chain with one double bond, fixed to the tyrosine at the start.12 In lab (in vitro) tests it binds and activates human GRF receptors about as potently as the body's own hormone.1 GRF acts on the growth hormone-producing cells of the pituitary, which make and release the body's own growth hormone in pulses; with tesamorelin, IGF-1 rises in turn.1

It is absorbed poorly and cleared fast: under-the-skin bioavailability of the original formulation was under 4%, and the mean half-life in healthy adults is about 8 minutes (Egrifta SV) to 11 minutes (Egrifta WR).17 Sermorelin is a shorter relative that stops at the first 29 amino acids of GHRH.8

The tesamorelin for sale here is a research vial, listed with the other growth hormone peptides. For side effects, trials and regulatory history, read What is Tesamorelin? before you buy tesamorelin online for a study.

Research highlights

  • Randomized trial, 412 people with HIV and abdominal fat (26 weeks): visceral fat fell 15.2% against a 5.0% rise on placebo, and triglycerides fell 50 mg/dL against a 9 mg/dL rise.9
  • Pooled analysis of two phase 3 trials, 806 people with HIV: at 26 weeks visceral fat fell, a treatment effect of -15.4% against placebo, with no significant change in fat under the skin and no clinically meaningful glucose differences.10
  • After stopping (52-week extensions): visceral fat built up again once tesamorelin was stopped, and the group switched to placebo lost 1.7 to 1.8 kg of lean body mass between weeks 26 and 52.111
  • Liver fat, 60 people with HIV and fatty liver disease (12 months): liver fat fraction fell 4.1 points more than on placebo, a 37% relative reduction from baseline.12
  • 60 people with abdominal obesity and reduced growth hormone secretion (randomized, 12 months): visceral fat fell 16 cm2 while it rose 19 cm2 on placebo, and triglycerides and C-reactive protein improved.13
  • 13 healthy men, no placebo group (2 weeks): basal and pulsed growth hormone rose and IGF-1 climbed by an average of 181 µg/L, with no significant change in fasting glucose.14

Regulatory status

FDA first approved tesamorelin, as Egrifta from Theratechnologies, on November 10, 2010.151 It is a prescription injection with one approved use, and its label says it is not indicated for weight loss.1 FDA regulates it as a biologic under BLA 022505, and FDA's 2020 notice says biologics that require a license cannot use the 503A or 503B compounding exemptions.1516

In warning letters dated August 24, 2026, FDA called research-labeled tesamorelin products from two online peptide sellers unapproved new drugs.1718 It said research-use labeling did not change that, because the websites showed the products were meant for people.1718 WADA's 2026 Prohibited List names tesamorelin under S2.2.4, growth hormone releasing factors, banned at all times in and out of competition.19

Handling and storage

On the approved labels, Egrifta SV is rolled and Egrifta WR swirled after the diluent goes in, never shaken, and the Egrifta WR solution must be clear and colorless.71 Those steps belong to the Egrifta formulations, with their own inactive ingredients, not to a research vial.1

The lab steps for a freeze-dried vial are in the reconstitution guide, the reconstitution calculator works out the concentration for a chosen volume of diluent, and How to store peptides covers storage.

Frequently asked questions

Which tesamorelin strengths are listed?

The listed strengths are 2 mg, 5 mg, 10 mg, one strength per vial. Each strength shows its own price and stock status in the selector. These are research quantities. The approved products are packaged differently: Egrifta SV as a 2 mg vial with histidine, mannitol, polysorbate 20 and sucrose, and Egrifta WR as an 11.6 mg vial with hydroxypropyl betadex and mannitol.71

Where does tesamorelin ship from?

Orders ship from the USA and Canada. The selector shows the origin and stock status of each strength before checkout, because stock can differ by origin. Delivery goes to addresses across the United States. Shipping details are on the shipping page, and returns are covered on Returns and refunds.

Is there a certificate of analysis for tesamorelin?

Any certificates of analysis D2C Peptides can share are posted on the lab results page. When reading one, check that the identity result fits tesamorelin: PubChem computes a molar mass of 5136 g/mol, and the FDA label gives 5135.9 Da as free base.41 To ask about a specific lot before ordering, use Contact us.

What supplies are used with a tesamorelin vial?

Diluent and handling supplies are separate catalog items. Lab handling uses a diluent such as bacteriostatic water, insulin syringes or a 3 mL Luer-Lok syringe with an 18G 1-inch needle, and alcohol swabs, each sold separately. For comparison, the approved forms use different diluents: Sterile Water for Injection for Egrifta SV, Bacteriostatic Water for Injection for Egrifta WR.71

Is this tesamorelin the same as Egrifta?

No. Egrifta SV and Egrifta WR are prescription products made by Theratechnologies under a US license, with set doses, inactive ingredients and storage, and the Egrifta WR label says even those two forms are not substitutable.1 The vials sold here are for laboratory research only and carry this label: For research use only. Not for human or veterinary use.
