A pack of 10 insulin syringes with 1 mL barrels, as listed by the supplier. Insulin syringes are graduated in units, not milliliters: U-100 insulin holds 100 units per mL, so one unit on a U-100 syringe is 0.01 mL.12

What it is

An insulin syringe is a small single-use syringe that comes with its own fine needle, as thin as 31 gauge, and is graduated in insulin units.5 Most insulin syringes are marked for U-100 insulin, the standard strength of 100 units per mL.2

For example, embecta sells U-100 syringes with 1 mL, 0.5 mL and 0.3 mL barrels, holding up to 100, 50 and 30 units, with needles 6, 8 or 12.7 mm long.4 The syringes in this pack have a 1 mL barrel, according to the supplier, which does not list the brand, needle gauge or needle length.

Insulin syringes for sale here come 10 to a pack, and the insulin syringes price shown above is for one pack. To buy insulin syringes online with a peptide order, add the pack to the same cart. Peptide supplies explained compares them with our other supplies.

How it is used

Unit marks measure volume only. On a U-100 syringe, 10 units is 0.1 mL whatever the liquid, and how much compound that holds depends on the solution's concentration.1 FDA has received reports of people giving themselves 5 to 20 times the intended dose of compounded semaglutide drawn from vials, and said confusion between milliliters, milligrams and units may have contributed.1 The reconstitution calculator gives a mixed vial's concentration per mL and per syringe unit, and the reconstitution guide covers the lab steps.

CDC's injection safety checklist calls for disinfecting a vial's rubber septum with alcohol before piercing it, and for a new needle and syringe at every entry.11 FDA has warned about plastic syringes made in China since November 2023, and its August 2024 update says to check where a syringe was made and to use syringes not made in China if possible.8 How prescribed injectables are given is covered in the injection guide.

Storage and disposal

If a syringe's wrapping or the cap on its end is broken or missing, MedlinePlus says to throw it away in a sharps container.10 Used syringes go straight into a sharps disposal container; once it is about three-quarters full, your community's disposal rules apply.12 Never put loose needles in household trash or recycling, and never flush them.13 After a stick from someone else's used needle, wash the spot with soap and water or rubbing alcohol and get medical care right away.14 Keeping mixed vials is covered in the storage guide.

Frequently asked questions

How many mL is 1 unit on an insulin syringe?

On a U-100 insulin syringe, 100 units fill 1 mL, so 1 unit is 0.01 mL.2 FDA gives the same math: a 5-unit dose drawn with a U-100 (1 mL) syringe is 0.05 mL.1 A unit is a volume, not an amount of drug; the units converter switches between mL and U-100 units.

Can I reuse an insulin syringe?

No. embecta, which makes insulin syringes, recommends using an insulin syringe needle only once and says it is no longer sterile after that.4 MedlinePlus says not to use the same needle and syringe twice,10 and CDC's rule is 'One Needle, One Syringe, Only One Time.'9

Do I need a prescription to buy insulin syringes?

FDA's device database lists embecta's 1 mL U-100 insulin syringe as an over-the-counter device.6 Nonprescription sales are set by state law: a 2017 study reported that at least 16 states had laws explicitly allowing them and that most others did not specifically bar sales to adults.7 State rules change, so check your state's current law.

Can insulin syringes ship with a peptide order?

Yes. The pack goes in the same cart as peptide vials and other supplies, and orders ship to addresses across the United States. This page lists where the pack ships from. Shipping details are on the shipping page, and returns follow the returns policy.
