These IGF-1 vials hold IGF-1 LR3 (Long R3 IGF-I), a lab-made variant of insulin-like growth factor 1, the hormone that manages the effects of growth hormone.612 It has 83 amino acids to native IGF-1's 70 and binds IGF-binding proteins about 1,000 times more weakly.345 Each vial holds white freeze-dried powder, in 0.1 mg, 1 mg sizes.6 Published studies of it are in cells and animals; ClinicalTrials.gov lists no human trial.24257

Questions about IGF-1

About IGF-1

IGF-1 (insulin-like growth factor 1) is a 70-amino-acid hormone that manages the effects of growth hormone in the body.14 The compound in these vials is a lab-made variant, IGF-1 LR3, according to the supplier's specification sequence.63 LR3 adds 13 amino acids to the front of human IGF-1 (the first 11 of pig growth hormone, then two more) and replaces the glutamate at position 3 with arginine.2023 A 1992 paper that described it called such analogues very useful reagents for studying how IGF-1 acts.21

These changes cut LR3's binding to IGF-binding proteins about a thousandfold, which its developers linked to its higher potency in rat muscle cells.522 All findings below come from cell and rat studies; ClinicalTrials.gov lists no human study (searched October 2026).7 IGF-1 for sale here comes as research vials, with the IGF-1 price for each size in the selector above. Research highlights

  • Muscle cells (rat L6 myoblasts, 1992 and 1993): LR3 stimulated protein and DNA synthesis and slowed protein breakdown, with 5 to 10 times the potency of IGF-1.2422
  • Receptor binding (1992): LR3 binds the type 1 IGF receptor about 3 times less well than IGF-1, yet in steroid-treated rats it was about 2.5 times more potent.2328
  • Growing female rats (14 days by implanted pump): IGF-1 raised weight gain, nitrogen retention and food conversion efficiency, and LR3 was 6 times more potent for growth.2526
  • Steroid-treated male rats (7 days): IGF-1 partly reversed the wasting caused by dexamethasone, and the added carcass weight in IGF-treated rats reflected nitrogen (protein) rather than fat.2729
  • Diabetic rats: LR3 restored growth with 2.5 to 3 times the potency of IGF-1, and the IGF peptides raised muscle protein synthesis by up to 50%.3031
  • Clearance (rats): LR3 was removed from the blood much faster than IGF-1, which the authors tie to its poor binding to plasma IGF-binding proteins.32

Regulatory status

IGF-1 LR3 is not an approved drug: a 2020 FDA warning letter to a compounding pharmacy said IGF1-LR3 is not a component of any FDA-approved human drug and is not on the 503A bulks list, so drugs compounded from it did not qualify for the section 503A exemptions.34 Human IGF-1 is approved as mecasermin (Increlex), a prescription injection first approved on August 30, 2005.3319 Its current label covers growth failure in children aged 2 and older with severe primary IGF-1 deficiency, or with a growth hormone gene deletion and neutralizing antibodies to growth hormone.18 The World Anti-Doping Agency bans IGF-1 and its analogues (class S2.3) at all times, in and out of competition.3536

Handling and storage

Peptide makers note that stability depends on each sequence.15 The LR3 sequence contains three methionines and six cysteines,3 amino acids they flag for oxidation and shorter shelf life, so vials are best kept tightly capped with little air exposure.1517 Warm a cold vial to room temperature before opening it, and reseal it quickly.17

The powder is dissolved in a suitable diluent before lab use; bacteriostatic water is sold separately. The reconstitution guide covers sterile technique, and the reconstitution calculator works out the concentration for a chosen volume of diluent.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I buy IGF-1 LR3 online?

On this page. D2C Peptides lists IGF-1 LR3 as freeze-dried research vials in 0.1 mg, 1 mg sizes. The listings are named IGF-1, but the supplier's specification gives the 83-amino-acid LR3 sequence, and the one lot certificate reviewed matched LR3 by mass.611 Native IGF-1, the 70-amino-acid hormone, is a different molecule.4

Where does IGF-1 ship from?

Orders go out from the USA and Canada to addresses across the United States. If a vial size has more than one shipping origin, the selector names each origin and whether it is in stock, so you can choose before checkout. The shipping page explains origins and lists timing and charges once they are confirmed.

How should IGF-1 be stored when it arrives?

Freeze-dried peptides can be shipped at room temperature.16 On arrival, move the sealed vial to a freezer (-20 °C) for long-term storage, or to a refrigerator (4 °C) if it will be used soon.1516 Dissolve only what a study needs, since peptides in solution break down much faster than the powder.15

Is there a certificate of analysis for IGF-1?

Lot documents are listed on the lab results page when they are published. The one certificate reviewed covers a 0.1 mg vial, lot number 2025-02-13, analyzed February 19, 2025. Its mass spectrometry result, 9110.45 Da against an expected 9111.40 Da, matched IGF-1 LR3, and its HPLC purity was 82.50%.1113 Check that any certificate matches your lot and vial size.

What supplies are used with an IGF-1 vial?

The powder is dissolved in a diluent such as bacteriostatic water, then measured with insulin syringes, with alcohol swabs for clean technique. The reconstitution calculator gives the concentration for a chosen volume of diluent. These are lab handling steps, not directions for use in people.

Is IGF-1 LR3 approved for human use?

No. In a 2020 warning letter, FDA said IGF1-LR3 is not a component of any FDA-approved human drug,34 and ClinicalTrials.gov lists no human study of it.7 Recombinant human IGF-1 is approved as mecasermin (Increlex), a prescription injection for growth failure in children aged 2 and older with severe primary IGF-1 deficiency.41819 These vials are sold under this label: For research use only. Not for human or veterinary use.
