Epithalon, also spelled epitalon, is a synthetic peptide of four amino acids: Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly (AEDG).1 Vladimir Khavinson's group in St. Petersburg, Russia, designed it from epithalamin, an extract of cattle pineal glands.321 Research on it is mostly in cells and animals, on telomeres, melatonin and aging.3 The vial holds 10 mg of white freeze-dried powder.4 It is not FDA approved.2

Questions about Epithalon

About Epithalon

Epithalon, also written epitalon or epithalone, is a tetrapeptide: alanine, glutamic acid, aspartic acid and glycine, in that order.12 Researchers at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology designed it from the amino acids of epithalamin, a polypeptide extract of cattle pineal glands.31 FDA treats epitalon and epithalamin as different substances, and a 2026 review says results for the extract are not direct evidence for epitalon.23

Most published work comes from Vladimir Khavinson's group, and independent confirmation remains sparse.23 Human data are limited to a few small Russian studies that measured melatonin markers, clock genes or retinal function.3 This page lists Epithalon for sale as a 10 mg research vial. Labs that buy Epithalon online for cell or animal work will find the human studies, side effects and regulatory history in What is Epithalon?.

Research highlights

  • Telomerase (2003, cell study): in Khavinson's lab, epitalon switched on telomerase and lengthened telomeres in cultured human fetal fibroblasts.9
  • Independent replication (2025, cell study, UK): telomeres lengthened in normal human cells through telomerase, and in two breast cancer cell lines also through ALT, a telomerase-independent route; three figures were later replaced in a correction.1011
  • Fruit flies (2000, animal): epitalon added to the food during development only lengthened adult lifespan by 11 to 16%, with no dose effect.12
  • Female SHR mice (2003, animal, 54 per group): mean lifespan did not change, but maximum lifespan rose 12.3% and leukemia was 6 times less frequent.13
  • Old rhesus monkeys (2001, animal): 10 days of injections raised evening melatonin more than 4-fold and lowered evening cortisol by about 30%; young monkeys showed no melatonin change.214
  • Night-shift women (2020, randomized placebo-controlled trial, n=40, blinding not stated): 20 days of a spray under the tongue raised a urine melatonin marker 1.7-fold; sleep was not measured and safety was not reported.152

Regulatory status

Epitalon is not FDA approved, has no USP or National Formulary monograph and is not a component of any approved drug.2 FDA lists it among substances once in category 2 of its compounding policies whose nominations were withdrawn, with a note on possible immune reactions for certain routes, from aggregation and impurities.16 On July 24, 2026, FDA's Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee voted to recommend adding epitalon to the 503A bulks list for insomnia (7 yes, 4 no and 1 abstention, as reported by Healio), against the advice of FDA's reviewers.1718 The vote does not bind FDA, and no final decision had appeared as of October 24, 2026.1819 In April 2026, Health Canada listed Epitalon among unauthorized injectable peptide drugs it had seized.20

Handling and storage

The vial holds freeze-dried powder only; no diluent is included.4 FDA notes that peptides such as epitalon can be extremely sensitive to pH, heat, concentration, impurities and excipients, which may lead to aggregation and degradation.2 Mixing steps (diluent, sterile technique, concentration math) are in the reconstitution guide, and the reconstitution calculator works out the concentration for a chosen volume of bacteriostatic water.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Epitalon peptide cost?

The Epithalon price is $30 for one 10 mg vial of freeze-dried powder; the price and stock badge at the top of the page update for each shipping origin. Bacteriostatic water is not included and is sold separately.4 Larger lab orders can go through a wholesale account, with terms confirmed on application.

Where does Epithalon ship from?

Orders ship from the USA and Canada to addresses across the United States. The selector at the top of the page shows each shipping origin with its stock status, so you can confirm availability before checkout. Delivery details are on the shipping page, and return terms are on the returns page.

How should Epithalon be stored when it arrives?

Keep the sealed vial frozen for long storage: the supplier rates it for 36 months at -20 °C, and FDA, citing vendor data, says freeze-dried epitalon free base should be kept dry below -18 °C.42 The same data give the free base 2 to 7 days at 4 °C once mixed, or below -18 °C for later use.2 See How to store peptides.

Is there a certificate of analysis for Epithalon?

The lab documents we publish are on the lab results page. Check what a certificate covers: FDA found that a certificate submitted for epitalon acetate gave no results for individual impurities, aggregates, microbial load or bacterial endotoxins.2 The molecular weight should match one form: 390.35 g/mol for the free base or 450.40 g/mol for the acetate.72 The supplier's page lists two different formulas, and only one matches epitalon.47

What supplies are used with an Epithalon vial?

Five supplies are listed with this vial: bacteriostatic water, a 3 mL Luer-Lok syringe, an 18G 1-inch needle, insulin syringes and alcohol swabs. Plan the diluent volume with care: FDA reports that epitalon's water solubility is limited and that a 3 mg/mL free-base solution in water may not be possible.2

Is Epithalon for human use?

No. It is sold for laboratory research only and is labeled not for human or veterinary use. FDA's 2026 review found no clinical data supporting the safety of epitalon in people and identified no pharmacokinetic studies in people.2 FDA is also concerned that aggregation (clumping) and impurities could make injected epitalon trigger immune reactions.2
