Cortagen is a synthetic tetrapeptide, Ala-Glu-Asp-Pro (AEDP), from Vladimir Khavinson's Russian peptide bioregulator family.35 Its sequence came from an amino acid analysis of Cortexin, a brain cortex extract.3 Its best-known result is faster sciatic nerve regrowth in rats, and no human trial has been published.41521 The vial holds 20 mg of freeze-dried powder.17

| Storage | Per the supplier, the unmixed vial belongs in a refrigerator, away from light.17 Bachem, a peptide maker, says freeze-dried peptides can travel at room temperature and sit at 4 °C for short-term use, but should be kept below -15 °C for longer storage.19 |
Research groups that need Cortagen across several experiments can apply for a wholesale account, with terms confirmed on application.
Cortagen is a four-amino-acid peptide: alanine, glutamic acid, aspartic acid and proline (Ala-Glu-Asp-Pro, or AEDP).310 Researchers in Vladimir Khavinson's program built it by directed synthesis after analyzing the amino acids of Cortexin, a peptide preparation extracted from brain cortex.35 Cortexin was created at the Military Medical Academy in 1986; its memory and attention studies concern the extract, so they are not evidence for Cortagen.113 In rat organ cultures, Cortagen stimulated the growth of brain cortex explants, which the developers describe as a tissue-specific effect.5
This page lists Cortagen as a 20 mg research vial. Its nearest relatives in the catalog are Epithalon (AEDG), which differs only in the last amino acid, and Cardiogen (AEDR) and Cartalax (AED), which share its first three.96 For the evidence in depth, including the nerve studies and what is unknown about safety, see What is Cortagen?
Cortagen is not an FDA-approved drug; as of October 2026, a DailyMed search returns no label.14 It is absent from FDA's Category 2 list of compounding substances that may present significant safety risks and from that list's withdrawn nominations.16 No human trial is registered on ClinicalTrials.gov.15 In an August 2025 public advisory, Health Canada named Cortagen among unauthorized injectable peptide drugs seized from the online seller Canada Peptide, noting that injectable peptides are prescription drugs in Canada and that none of the seized products had been assessed for safety, efficacy and quality.12 WADA does not list Cortagen by name, but its class S0 bans at all times pharmacological substances not covered elsewhere on the list that have no current approval by any government health authority for human therapeutic use.13
Cortagen contains aspartic acid, one of the residues GenScript names as shortening a peptide's life in solution, and GenScript does not recommend keeping peptides dissolved for long.18 Bachem suggests that any solution that must be stored is split into portions and frozen below -15 °C.19 The supplier's 30-day window for a mixed vial kept cold is its own figure; we found no published stability data for Cortagen solutions.1721 At 430.4 g/mol, 1 mg of Cortagen is about 2.32 micromoles, by our arithmetic.1 The reconstitution guide sets out the lab steps, and the reconstitution calculator gives the concentration for any diluent volume.
Orders go out from the USA and Canada to addresses across the United States. Choose an origin in the selector at the top of the page, and the stock badge shows whether the 20 mg vial is listed as available from it, so you can pick one before checkout. Order policies are on the shipping page and the returns page.
Refrigerate the unmixed vial and keep it out of light, following the supplier.17 For storage over months, GenScript's general condition for freeze-dried peptides is -20 °C.18 Cortagen contains glutamic acid and aspartic acid, two residues GenScript lists as prone to absorbing moisture, so keep the vial tightly capped and let it reach room temperature before you open it.1819
Lab documents for our products are listed on the lab results page as they become available. When you review one, compare the identity data with PubChem's record: C17H26N4O9 and 430.4 g/mol.1 Do not lean on the CAS number alone, because 335591-03-2 appears on PubChem only as a depositor-supplied synonym.2 Also look for net peptide content: Bachem notes a powder can be over 95% pure by HPLC yet only 70 to 90% peptide by weight.20
Five supplies are listed beside this vial: bacteriostatic water as the diluent, a 3 mL Luer-Lok syringe and an 18G 1-inch needle for drawing up liquid, insulin syringes for fine measurement, and alcohol swabs to wipe the stopper. Concentration math is handled by the reconstitution calculator. These items support bench work only.
No. The vial is sold for laboratory research only and labeled not for human or veterinary use.17 No human trial of Cortagen appears in PubMed or on ClinicalTrials.gov (checked October 2026), so its effects and safety in people are unknown.2115 Health Canada named Cortagen among unauthorized injectable peptide drugs it seized from an online seller in 2025, warning of risks such as infection and allergic reactions.12
