Vilon is a synthetic dipeptide, Lys-Glu (KE), developed by Vladimir Khavinson's group in Russia as a thymus-related immune modulator.46 Nearly all published work is in cells and rodents, and in one mouse breast cancer model it promoted tumors.68 Each vial contains 20 mg of freeze-dried powder.19 Vilon is not an approved drug in the United States.16

Questions about Vilon

About Vilon

Vilon is a dipeptide: just two amino acids, lysine and glutamic acid, written Lys-Glu or KE.36 Vladimir Khavinson and colleagues synthesized it as a new immune-modulating dipeptide, in the same research line as Thymalin, an extract of calf thymus.4 In rat organ cultures it stimulated the growth of thymus explants, which Khavinson describes as a tissue-specific effect.5

Its animal record is mixed: longer lifespan and fewer tumors in some rodent models, but more breast tumors in one mouse model.798 Epithalon was tested beside it in that model, and Cortagen in immune cell work.811 The full evidence, safety signals and study doses are in What is Vilon?

Research highlights

  • Female CBA mice (2000, animal): Vilon under the skin from the sixth month of life raised activity and endurance, lengthened lifespan and prevented spontaneous tumors.7
  • HER-2/neu transgenic mice (2002, animal): compared with saline, Vilon increased breast cancer incidence, shortened the time until tumors appeared and raised tumor numbers; Epithalon, by contrast, reduced the total number and maximum size of tumors.8
  • Bladder carcinogen, rats (2001, animal): tumors developed in 56% of Vilon-treated rats against 75.5% of controls.9
  • Old male rats (2006, animal): regular Vilon activated sexual function and lowered blood prolactin.10
  • Mouse thymus cells (2002, cell study): Vilon had the strongest co-mitogenic effect (boosting cell division alongside a mitogen) of the three peptides tested; Cortagen had none.11
  • Human skin fibroblasts (2017, cell study): KE increased the area of collagen type I expression by 83% in "old" cultures.12
  • Elderly people with type 1 diabetes (2007, human report, size not given): added to standard therapy, Vilon was reported to improve clotting markers and in most cases to lower the insulin dose; the abstract gives no numbers.13

Regulatory status

Vilon is not an FDA-approved drug; as of October 2026, a DailyMed search returns no label for it.16 It is not on FDA's Category 2 list of compounding substances that may present significant safety risks, or on that list's withdrawn nominations.18 No trial of it is registered on ClinicalTrials.gov.17 In an August 2025 public advisory, Health Canada named Vilon among unauthorized injectable peptide drugs seized from the online seller Canada Peptide, noting that none of the seized products had been assessed for safety, efficacy and quality.14 WADA's 2026 list does not name Vilon, but its class S0 bans at all times pharmacological substances not covered elsewhere on the list that have no current approval by any government health authority for human therapeutic use.15

Handling and storage

Vilon contains none of the residues GenScript names as shortening a peptide's life in solution (Cys, Met, Trp, Asp, Gln and N-terminal Glu; its Glu is C-terminal), but GenScript still does not recommend storing any peptide in solution.20 Bachem recommends splitting a solution that must be kept into portions frozen below -15 °C.21 The supplier's 30-day limit for a mixed, refrigerated vial is its own figure; we found no published stability data for Vilon solutions.19 At 275.30 g/mol, 1 mg of Vilon is about 3.63 micromoles, by our arithmetic.1 Lab steps are in the reconstitution guide, and the reconstitution calculator gives the concentration for a chosen diluent volume.

Frequently asked questions

How is Vilon shipped?

Vilon ships from the USA and Canada to addresses across the United States. Before checkout, choose a shipping origin in the selector at the top of this page; the stock badge then shows whether the 20 mg vial is listed as available from that origin. Shipping and return policies are set out on the shipping page and the returns page.

How should Vilon be stored after delivery?

Place the unmixed vial in a refrigerator, out of light, as the supplier advises.19 Both of Vilon's amino acids, lysine and glutamic acid, are on GenScript's list of residues that pull moisture from the air, and GenScript says such peptides belong in a tightly capped vial inside a desiccator.20 Bachem adds that a cold container should reach room temperature in a desiccator before it is opened.21

Is there a certificate of analysis for Vilon?

Lab documents for our products are listed on the lab results page as they become available. Check a certificate's identity data against PubChem's record for lysylglutamic acid: C11H21N3O5, 275.30 g/mol, CAS 45234-02-4.12 Also look for net peptide content: Bachem notes that research peptides are typically over 95% pure by HPLC, yet the powder may be only 70 to 90% peptide by weight because it also holds counter-ions and residual moisture.22

What supplies are used with a Vilon vial?

This vial is listed with five lab supplies: bacteriostatic water to dissolve the powder, a 3 mL Luer-Lok syringe with an 18G 1-inch needle for transferring diluent, insulin syringes for measuring small volumes, and alcohol swabs for the vial stopper. For the concentration a given volume produces, use the reconstitution calculator. This is bench handling information only.

Is Vilon for human use?

No. It is sold for laboratory research only and labeled not for human or veterinary use.19 No trial of Vilon is registered on ClinicalTrials.gov, and DailyMed holds no FDA label for it (both checked October 2026).1716 The human report cited here, on elderly people with type 1 diabetes, is a short Russian abstract with no patient numbers.13 In one mouse model prone to breast cancer, Vilon increased breast cancer incidence and tumor numbers.8
