Semaglutide is a peptide of 31 amino acids in the GLP-1 receptor agonist class.1 It is an engineered analog of human GLP-1 with two amino acid substitutions and a fatty acid side chain that binds it tightly to albumin, a blood protein.2 This research vial holds semaglutide as a white, freeze-dried solid (2 mg, 5 mg), labeled for research use only, with no diluent included.

Questions about Semaglutide

About Semaglutide

Semaglutide is a peptide of 31 amino acids and a GLP-1 receptor agonist, meaning it activates the receptor for the hormone GLP-1.1 Its 2015 discovery paper reports two amino acid swaps from human GLP-1 (Aib at position 8, Arg at position 34) and a fatty acid side chain at lysine 26 that raises albumin binding and prolongs its action.2

The human results below come from randomized, placebo-controlled trials of semaglutide, not of any research-labeled vial.9101213

This vial sits in the Weight Loss Peptides category of the peptide shop. The semaglutide price for each strength is shown in the selector at the top of the page. Background and sources: What is Semaglutide?.

Research highlights

  • Animal study (2015): in mini-pigs, plasma half-life was 46.1 hours after an intravenous dose, and mean residence time was 63.6 hours after a dose under the skin.2
  • Human trial, STEP 1 (2021): in 1,961 adults without diabetes who had obesity, or overweight plus a weight-related condition, average weight change over 68 weeks was -14.9% with semaglutide vs -2.4% with placebo, both alongside lifestyle intervention.10
  • Human trial extension (2022): of 327 STEP 1 participants followed for a year after treatment stopped, those who had taken semaglutide regained two-thirds of the weight they had lost.11
  • Human trial, SELECT (2023): in 17,604 adults aged 45 or older with cardiovascular disease and overweight or obesity but no diabetes, cardiovascular death, nonfatal heart attack or nonfatal stroke occurred in 6.5% on semaglutide vs 8.0% on placebo over a mean follow-up of 39.8 months. Adverse events led 16.6% vs 8.2% to stop the trial drug.9
  • Human trial, FLOW (2024): in 3,533 people with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease, the risk of the main outcome (kidney failure, a drop of at least 50% in kidney filtration rate, or death from kidney or cardiovascular causes) was 24% lower than with placebo.12
  • Human trial, ESSENCE (2025): in a planned interim analysis of the first 800 people with the liver disease MASH and fibrosis stage 2 or 3, steatohepatitis resolved without worse fibrosis in 62.9% on semaglutide vs 34.3% on placebo at 72 weeks.13

Regulatory status

Research-labeled semaglutide is not FDA approved, and no approved application covers it.614 FDA sent warning letters to online sellers of semaglutide labeled for research use in February 2024, December 2024 and February 2025.15614 In each, FDA said the seller's website showed the products were intended as drugs for human use despite the research-only labels, which made them unapproved new drugs.15614 In sport, semaglutide is not prohibited: it sits in WADA's Monitoring Program, which covers substances not on the Prohibited List, and WADA kept the status of GLP-1 receptor agonists unchanged for 2027.1617

Handling and storage

Bacteriostatic water is the diluent listed for this freeze-dried solid, with a 3 mL Luer-Lok syringe, an 18G 1-inch needle, insulin syringes and alcohol swabs. How to reconstitute Semaglutide covers concentration math and the storage facts sources support, and the reconstitution calculator turns vial size and diluent volume into mg/mL. Labs ordering in volume can apply for wholesale.

Frequently asked questions

What strengths does the semaglutide research vial come in?

It comes in 2 mg, 5 mg. That figure is the labeled amount of semaglutide in the vial as a dry solid, not a concentration. The concentration depends on how much diluent is added, and the reconstitution calculator does that arithmetic. The price for each strength shows in the selector above.

Where does the semaglutide vial ship from?

Each strength is offered with a choice of origin, currently the USA and Canada, picked in the selector before the vial goes in your cart. Orders ship to addresses across the United States. Current shipping details are on the shipping page, and refund terms are on the returns page.

How should the vial be handled when it arrives?

Check that the seal is intact and that the label matches the strength ordered. Bachem, a peptide maker, says freeze-dried peptides may ship at room temperature and sit in a refrigerator at 4 °C short term; for longer storage it advises a tightly closed container below -15 °C.7 Let a cold vial warm to room temperature in a desiccator before opening, since peptides absorb water from the air.18 See How to store peptides.

Is there a certificate of analysis for this vial?

Testing documentation is handled on the lab results page; check there for what is available for the current batch. This page quotes no purity figure, so rely on the batch documents rather than on product copy. Questions about a specific order or batch can go through the contact page.

What supplies are used with a semaglutide vial?

The vial holds a dry solid and needs a diluent before lab use, and none is included. Supplies listed for it: bacteriostatic water, a 3 mL Luer-Lok syringe, an 18G 1-inch needle, insulin syringes and alcohol swabs. The steps are in How to reconstitute a peptide vial.

Is this semaglutide meant for human use?

No. The vial is sold for laboratory research and labeled for research use only; no approved application covers research-labeled semaglutide.6 FDA says unapproved versions of GLP-1 drugs do not undergo its review for safety, effectiveness and quality.8 Terms of sale are in the research use policy.
