Benefits and uses

CJC-1295 with DAC benefits and uses

Reported benefits of CJC-1295 with DAC are hormone changes: in small studies of healthy adults, one injection raised growth hormone and IGF-1 for about one to two weeks.12 No study has measured muscle, fat loss, healing, sleep or skin outcomes in people.34 The only patient trial was terminated, and its data have not been published.515

What the hormone studies show

The best-documented effect is a long-lasting rise in growth hormone (GH) and IGF-1 in the blood.1 Repeated injections stretched the IGF-I rise to as long as 28 days, with each dose adding to the last.1 In the overnight study of 12 men, the extra GH showed up as a higher baseline (trough) level, while the pulses kept their usual frequency and size.222

A 2009 study looked further downstream. One week after an injection, blood from 11 healthy young men held less of one apolipoprotein A1 form and one transthyretin form, and more beta-hemoglobin, albumin fragments and an immunoglobulin fragment.10 The authors proposed these proteins as possible markers of GH or IGF-1 action.10

None of these studies measured a clinical outcome.4 FDA notes they did not track endpoints such as lean body mass, fat mass or height velocity, and concludes that they do not support effectiveness for treating GH deficiency.4 FDA also found no study that gave any form of CJC-1295 to people with a disease or condition.12

What animal studies show

In rats, total GH released over the first 2 hours after an injection under the skin was four times higher than with the natural fragment, hGRF(1-29).13 In young mice bred without GHRH, daily CJC-1295 for 5 weeks gave normal body weight and length, and relative lean mass and subcutaneous fat mass were normal in every treated group.6 The treated mice also had more pituitary GH mRNA, a change that suggests more GH-producing cells.6 Because these mice make no GHRH of their own, they model a deficiency, not a normal adult.6

Muscle and body composition

No study has measured muscle mass, strength or performance in people given CJC-1295, and the human trials did not measure body composition.4 The only lean-mass result comes from the knockout mice described above.6 Muscle-growth and strength claims appear on websites that FDA reviewed, not in the studies.3 In sport, CJC-1295 is prohibited at all times under class S2.2.4 of the 2026 WADA Prohibited List.14 Other compounds searched for this goal are covered in Peptides and muscle growth.

Fat loss

No human fat-loss result has been published.415 ConjuChem's phase 2 trial set out to test 12 weeks of CJC-1295 in adults aged 18 to 65 with HIV-associated visceral (abdominal) obesity.5 It was terminated, and its data have not been published.15 A different GHRH analog, tesamorelin (EGRIFTA WR), is FDA-approved to reduce excess abdominal fat in HIV-infected adults with lipodystrophy.16 CJC-1295 with DAC is not FDA-approved for any use.21 See What is Tesamorelin? and Peptides and weight loss.

Healing, sleep, skin and aging

FDA's 2024 review lists what websites claim for CJC-1295: muscle growth and strength, weight loss, better sleep, cellular repair and post-injury recovery, and more collagen with better skin tone, elasticity, hair and nails.3 Three of these claim groups have no study behind them at all:

  • Healing and recovery. FDA's review contains no human or animal study of wound, tendon or injury healing with CJC-1295; the animal pharmacology work looked at GH release and growth.7 More: Peptides and healing and recovery.
  • Sleep. No study measured sleep, though websites claim better sleep quality.3 The overnight study drew blood every 20 minutes for 12 hours to follow GH pulses, without assessing sleep itself.2 More: Peptides and sleep.
  • Skin, hair and aging. No study tested these outcomes.3 More: Peptides and skin and hair.

Blood sugar

No study tested CJC-1295 for blood sugar control, and in the healthy-volunteer trials glucose showed no consistent change on blood tests.8 FDA points out that approved GH products carry warnings for glucose intolerance and diabetes, and it has no data showing CJC-1295 would avoid that risk.9 More: Peptides and blood sugar.

Who the findings apply to

Men supplied 87% of the human data, and two of the three published studies enrolled only men aged about 20 to 40.11210 Women were about 13% of participants.11 See Peptides and men's health and Peptides and women's health.

How to read these findings

  • A lab value is not an outcome. Higher GH and IGF-1 show that CJC-1295 acts on the pituitary, which is how GHRH analogs work.7 They do not show a change in muscle, fat, healing or aging, none of which was measured.4
  • Few people, short exposure. The human data cover 63 healthy volunteers, and 73% of them received one injection.11
  • No patient results. ConjuChem withdrew CJC-1295 from clinical trials in 2006 after a participant in its phase 2 trial died.20
  • DAC findings stay with the DAC form. FDA says results for CJC-1295 with DAC cannot be applied to CJC-1295 without DAC.19 That form has its own profile: What is CJC-1295 No DAC?.

Frequently asked questions

What are the benefits of CJC-1295 with DAC?

The documented effects are hormonal. In placebo-controlled trials of healthy adults, one injection raised GH and IGF-I for about one to two weeks, with an estimated half-life of 5.8 to 8.1 days.1 No study measured muscle, fat, recovery, sleep or skin outcomes in people, and FDA says the human studies do not support effectiveness for treating growth hormone deficiency.43 The one patient trial, in HIV-associated abdominal fat, was terminated, and its data have not been published.515

Does CJC-1295 build muscle or burn fat?

Neither has been shown in people. The human studies measured GH, IGF-1 and drug levels, and FDA notes they did not measure body composition such as lean mass or fat mass.4 The only patient trial, in adults with HIV-related abdominal fat, ended early with no published results.515 The closest data come from young mice that lack GHRH, where daily dosing gave normal lean mass and subcutaneous fat mass.6

Does CJC-1295 keep the body's natural GH pulses?

In one small study, yes. Researchers sampled GH overnight in 12 healthy men before and one week after a single injection.222 The number and size of GH pulses did not change, while trough GH rose 7.5-fold, mean GH 46% and IGF-I 45%.2 The authors suggested that long-acting GHRH drugs might suit patients whose pituitary can still make GH, but that idea was not tested.2

Can CJC-1295 with DAC be combined with ipamorelin?

Websites say the two work synergistically to maximize GH release, but the published human studies gave CJC-1295 with DAC on its own.1712 Ipamorelin acts through a GHRP-like receptor, while CJC-1295 acts on the GHRH receptor of pituitary cells.187 Both are prohibited in sport under class S2.2.4 of the 2026 WADA Prohibited List.14 The blend has its own page: What is CJC-1295 + Ipamorelin?.
