The check-up that quietly gets skipped
Life gets busy, and for a lot of working-age adults years slide by between real eye exams. When the glasses finally feel off, it is easy to drop by a big-box counter for a fast screening that refreshes a prescription and sends you on your way. The trouble is what that fast lane leaves out. Screens, long commutes, and everyday eye strain keep building in the background, and the health side of your eyes, the part that can shift without you feeling a thing, never gets a proper look.
That is the gap we exist to close. Riverside Family Eye Care is for Fort Myers adults who want thorough, personal eye care, comprehensive and medical exams, from doctors who take the time, rather than rushed big-box optical. You should not have to choose between convenience and actually knowing your eyes are healthy.
What a real exam gives you
Not a conveyor-belt vision check. A full sit-down exam, and a current prescription paired with a real health screening.
A full sit-down exam, not a conveyor belt
We talk, we visit, and we work through your eyes without watching the clock.
A current prescription and a real health screening, together
You walk out with an accurate prescription for glasses or contacts and, in the same visit, a genuine look at the health of your eyes. One is about seeing clearly today; the other is about protecting your sight for the long run. You get both, not one or the other.
Inside a comprehensive adult exam
A comprehensive adult eye exam here is a set of unhurried, plainspoken steps, each explained as we go:
- Vision and refraction. We measure exactly how you see and dial in the right correction for glasses and contact lenses.
- How your eyes work together. We check how your eyes focus and team up, since comfort at a screen or behind the wheel depends on more than one eye at a time.
- Eye pressure and the optic nerve. We check the pressure inside your eyes and take a careful look at the optic nerve, an important early-warning part of the exam.
- The retina and inner eye. We evaluate the retina and the back of the eye, where a lot of quiet changes first show up.
- Your day-to-day and your health. We talk through how screens, driving, and your overall health are affecting your sight.
You finish with a written prescription and a clear, plain-English plan for what, if anything, to do next.
An unhurried exam, not a fifteen-minute counter visit
At a chain, the visit is often a fifteen-minute prescription update at a benefits-redemption counter. It is quick, it is transactional, and it is easy to put off because it never feels like it is really about you. Here it works the other way around, with every step explained in language you can follow.

Straight answers before you book
How often should I get an eye exam?
For most healthy adults, every one to two years is about right. Your eyes, your history, and how you use them all factor in, so at your visit we will tell you the schedule that actually fits you rather than a one-size answer.
Is the exam covered by insurance?
Often, yes. An adult exam is frequently billable to your vision plan, and we accept vision and medical plans, listed on our Insurance page. Coverage varies by plan, so call us at 239-500-2020 to verify yours.
Will my eyes be dilated?
Sometimes. We dilate when it is the right call for getting a clear view of your eye health, and we will explain why before we do. It is a judgment we make with you, not a routine everyone gets by default.
I have no problems. Do I really need an exam?
Yes. Clear vision can hide a lot, and the health screening is exactly the part a quick eyesight check skips. Plenty of early changes have no symptoms at all, which is the whole point of looking.
