A Fruitcake-Spiced Canna-Cocktail Without the Booze

Black tea, cranberry and berry preserves with orange peel and warm spice: an alcohol-free holiday glass with a measured THC tincture shaken in.

This holiday THC mocktail earns its fruitcake name. It starts as a black tea mocktail, with cranberry juice and berry preserves for dark-fruit depth. Orange peel and a pinch of warm spice add the bakery notes, and a measured THC tincture is shaken right in. There's no liquor, just a festive glass that tastes like the holidays.

Start with the label

The dose comes from the tincture, so read its label first: it lists THC in mg per ml. Measure with the marked dropper or a small oral syringe, and start low. Health Canada suggests new consumers begin at 2.5 mg of THC or less. Shake the tincture with the tea, juice and preserves before any ice goes in, so it mixes through the whole drink. Then give it at least 2 hours before a second glass. Our cannabis tincture guide and THC dosage guide go deeper.

The fruitcake flavors

Fruitcake means candied peel, dark fruit and warm spice, so the glass leans on the same notes:

  • Black tea, regular or decaf, for a malty backbone
  • Cranberry juice for tart fruit
  • Cherry or blueberry preserves for jammy sweetness
  • Orange peel and a pinch of cinnamon, allspice or nutmeg
  • Dried or maraschino cherries to garnish

Shake, strain, serve your holiday THC mocktail

Shake everything with the tincture until the preserves dissolve, add ice and shake again, then strain over fresh ice. Twist the orange peel over the glass and drop it in with the cherries. For a sparkling version, strain into a tall glass and top with berry seltzer.

Batching and labeling

Mix to order when you can, so each glass gets its own measured dose. If you batch a pitcher, stir the total tincture dose in thoroughly, label the pitcher 'contains THC' with the dose per cup, and serve it with a measuring cup. Pour out whatever remains once the party winds down instead of saving it, and keep tinctures away from children and pets. A zero-THC glass for everyone else

Make the same base without tincture in a second, clearly marked pitcher, so every guest gets the fruitcake glass. Keep the infused version for adults 21+ who know what's in it, and make sure nobody who drinks it drives. • Ice
  • 2 dried or maraschino cherries
  • Optional: 2 to 3 ounces berry seltzer

Steps

  1. Combine the tea, cranberry juice, preserves, spice and measured tincture in a cocktail shaker or a jar with a tight lid.

  2. Shake hard for about 10 seconds, until the preserves have dissolved.

  5. For a sparkling version, strain into a tall glass of ice instead and top with berry seltzer.

Frequently asked questions

How much tincture goes in one mocktail?

Enough for the dose you chose, measured in milliliters. Multiply the ml you add by the label's mg per ml: 1 ml of a tincture labeled 3 mg per ml is about 3 mg, for example. Keep the first glass small, and wait at least 2 hours before deciding on another.

Can I use decaf tea?

Yes. Decaf black tea keeps the same malty backbone with only a trace of caffeine, which makes the glass easier to enjoy late in the evening. Brew it strong, since ice and juice dilute it, and chill it completely before mixing. Rooibos works too, for a naturally caffeine-free glass with a warm, slightly sweet flavor.

Does caffeine change how THC feels?

It might, and there's no reliable way to predict how it will for you. Caffeine is a stimulant, and THC affects people differently, so the pairing can feel different from one person to the next. To keep things simple, brew decaf, so the THC you measured is the one new variable in your glass.
