The best 4/20 dispensary deals aren't always the ones with the biggest percentage off. Around April 20, specials pile up: bundles, bulk pricing, percent-off sales and short flash offers. This guide shows how to compare them by what you actually get, price per gram or per milligram of THC, and how to plan a calm, budget-friendly 4/20 shop in Michigan.
Why 4/20 is such a big shopping day
April 20 grew from cannabis slang into an unofficial holiday, and our explainer on what 4/20 means covers the history. In its 2025 analysis, one retail data firm called it the leading cannabis shopping day of the year. In 2025, the biggest jump that firm measured was in Montana, where stores rang up 2.7 times their typical sales.
The calendar matters too. In 2025 the date fell on Easter Sunday, and total sales came in lower than the year before. Whatever day it lands on, expect busier stores, popular items selling out, and offers that come and go quickly.
Where 4/20 dispensary deals show up
Here's how to find dispensary deals worth your money:
- Deals pages and menus. A store's own deals page and online menu are the most reliable places to look. At High Society, start with our deals page, then check your store's menu before you go.
- Texts and emails. Many dispensaries announce offers to people who sign up. At High Society, you can share your phone number and email when you check in to hear about discounts and special offers.
- Loyalty programs. Some programs include member offers, so check your account before you shop.
Searching "420 deals near me" turns up plenty of listings, but third-party pages can be out of date. Go to the store's own deals page and menu to see what's actually running.
Deal types decoded
Cannabis bundle deals, bulk pricing and percent-off sales each reward a different kind of shopper:
| Deal type | How it works | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Buy more, save more | The discount grows with your spend or quantity | Whether the next level is worth the extra spend |
| Bulk pricing | Bigger sizes cost less per gram | Whether you'll use it while it's fresh |
| Bundles | Buy two, get one, or a mixed set at one price | Whether you want every item in the bundle |
| Percent off | A set discount on a category or brand | What the price was before the discount |
| Flash sales | A short window, often with limited stock | Whether it was on your list before the sale |
A buy-two-get-one deal works out to about 33% off each item, but only if you wanted three. The best dispensary deals are the ones you'd have bought anyway, at a lower price per unit.
Whatever the deal, Michigan's limits still apply. A licensed store can sell no more than 2.5 ounces in a single transaction, and no more than 15 grams of that can be concentrate.
Doing the math: price per gram and per milligram of THC
Discounts are easier to compare once everything is in the same unit:
- Flower: divide the price by the grams. An eighth is 3.5 grams, a quarter 7, a half 14 and an ounce 28.
- THC in flower: multiply the THC percentage by 10 to get milligrams per gram. Flower at 20% THC holds about 200 mg per gram.
- Edibles and drinks: divide the price by the total milligrams of THC on the label.
- Vapes and concentrates: multiply the grams by the THC percentage to get milligrams, then divide the price by that number.
Here's how it looks with example numbers. These are practice prices, not anyone's menu:
| Product and example price | Amount | THC | Cost per unit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flower eighth, $35 | 3.5 g | 20% | $10.00 per gram |
| Flower quarter, $60 | 7 g | 20% | about $8.57 per gram |
| Gummies, $20 | 10 pieces | 100 mg total | $0.20 per mg |
| Vape cartridge, $40 | 1 g | 85%, or 850 mg | about $0.05 per mg |
Two cautions. Per-milligram prices aren't apples to apples across formats, because your body absorbs eaten and inhaled THC differently. And tax comes on top: adult-use purchases in Michigan carry a 10% excise tax plus 6% sales tax, figured on the price including the excise, so a $100 purchase comes to $116.60.
Loyalty points and The Society
Dispensary loyalty rewards usually work the same basic way: you earn points on purchases and redeem them for discounts later. The fine print is where programs differ, especially on whether points combine with sale prices. Our guide to dispensary rewards programs compares the common setups.
Our loyalty program, The Society, is free to join in store or online. Points are added to your account automatically with every qualifying purchase, and you can use them for discounts or rewards at checkout, in store or online. Points may not apply to certain promotions or products, so ask before you count on them for a 4/20 deal. Join The Society on our club member program page.
Patient, veteran and other dispensary discounts: ask first
Some dispensaries offer discounts to groups such as medical patients, veterans or seniors. These aren't universal, the terms vary, and some don't combine with holiday specials. If you think you qualify for one, ask your store before you shop rather than assuming it applies.
Planning your 4/20 shop
- Check deals early. Look at the deals page and your store's menu a few days ahead, then again that morning.
- Order ahead for pickup. Browse your store's menu, add your items, schedule a pickup time and check out. Ask for curbside, and we'll text you when your order is ready.
- Set a budget that includes tax. Cash works at every High Society store, and other payment options vary by store, so check before you go.
- Pick your timing. If your schedule allows, aim for a quieter time of day.
- Bring your ID. Michigan stores check a valid photo ID before every sale, even when you've ordered ahead.
One new product, one firm budget
Deals make it tempting to try five new things at once. A better plan is to pick one new product or format, buy your usual items at the price you planned, and stop at your budget. Keep notes on what you tried and how you liked it, so the next deal is easier to judge. Our guide to cannabis budgeting has more ways to make a budget stick.
Trying a new format? Start low and give it time, especially with edibles. 21+ only. Please consume responsibly, and never drive after using cannabis.
